The Superstition Amateur Radio Club’s SuperFest has been held annually on the first Saturday of December in Phoenix Metro area since 1982, and it is the largest ham radio “hamfest” and technology swap meet gathering in the desert southwest.

🔧 What is a Hamfest:

  1. Swap Meet / Flea Market:

    • The main attraction for many attendees.

    • Hams buy, sell, and trade radio equipment, antennas, components, tools, and electronics.

    • Great place to find rare or vintage gear and good deals on used equipment.

  2. Vendor Exhibits:

    • Commercial vendors showcase and sell new amateur radio products.

    • You might see big names like Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood, MFJ, etc.

  3. Forums and Workshops:

    • Educational sessions on radio technology, digital modes, antennas, emergency communication, licensing, and more.

  4. License Testing:

    • The Superfest offers FCC licensing exams for those looking to get or upgrade their amateur radio license.

  5. Socializing and Clubs:

    • A chance to meet other radio enthusiasts, network, and connect with local clubs or emergency communication groups (like ARES or RACES).

  6. Prizes and Raffles:

    • Superfest has drawings and raffles for radio gear and accessories.

Why It’s Called a “Hamfest”:

  • “Ham” = slang for amateur radio operator.

  • “Fest” = short for festival.

  • So, hamfest is essentially a “festival for hams.”
